Get Involved in the Siouxland Sleep Out

By Kerri | October 23, 2015 | Comments Off on Get Involved in the Siouxland Sleep Out
The Siouxland Sleep Out is set for Friday, November 6 at the Explorer’s Stadium, 3400 Line Drive in Sioux City. This event raises awareness and funds for programs that support those in need in the Siouxland area. Funds benefit the following groups:
Heather at SleepoutHenry Muller Hall
Project Restore
Shesler Hall
CSADV
Community Action Agency of Siouxland
Center for Siouxland
Gospel Mission
Siouxland Sleep Out is a great opportunity for NWIA to support our community, and simultaneously meet one of the NAR mandated Core Standards. Our own awesome Heather Frigge is set to participate in this event, but more help is needed to allow us to use this as a qualifying Core Standard event.
WE NEED REALTOR INVOLVEMENT!
  • Seeking 4 REALTOR members willing to actually sleep out.  Yes, like outside.  In a tent or box.  In November.  And we’re not kidding.  Heather’s experienced and will show you the ropes.  It’s onenight, people.  You’re not going to die.  You might even have fun so grab your rabbit slippers, long johns and mittens and get brave.  If you’re nice, Heather might even lend you a blanket.
  • Seeking 6 REALTOR members who will commit to coming to attend the evening’s events. These include a soup supper, bonfire and musical performances. Bring your spouse, friends and kids for a night of fun. Sleeping out is not required.
  • Too busy to help? TAKE THIS EASY OUT OPTION! Seeking 25 REALTOR members willing to donate money. Your donation in support of Heather and our team’s efforts is an easy way to help us meet a Core Standard and support a very worthy community event. Suggested donation $50+.

Yeah, $50.  You aren’t sleeping outside in the cold, so show some appreciation for our peeps that are, so your tush can stay home and sleep inside, in your warm cozy bed.

CONTACT HEATHER at the board office, (712) 255-8810 and let her know how you want to be involved.  If you don’t call her, she’s going to call you. And she’s pretty good at shaking people down to get what she wants.  So make the call…NOW.

Board Office Inclement Weather Policy

By Kerri | October 19, 2015 | Comments Off on Board Office Inclement Weather Policy

Although no one really wants to talk about it, winter weather will be on the way sooner than most of us would like. We live in Iowa folks, so really, it’s not a surprise.

The NWIA board has adopted a policy which directs staff to follow the lead of the Sioux City Public Schools to determine closures related to inclement weather.  If the Sioux City Public Schools are closed, opening late, or closing early due to inclement weather, the board office will follow their lead.  Announcements will be posted on NWIA social media channels and the board website.

In the event of an office closure, staff will make every attempt to continue to answer e-mail and voicemail messages in a timely manner. We appreciate your support to allow our staff to stay safe in inclement weather.

NAR Call For Action: Stop the Housing Tax for Transportation

By Kerri | October 16, 2015 | Comments Off on NAR Call For Action: Stop the Housing Tax for Transportation

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will begin consideration on the surface transportation reauthorization legislation.

One proposal would use Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) to fund transportation programs. This would create a tax on all potential homeowners and consumers looking to purchase or refinance a mortgage.

By increasing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) to fund transportation programs, Congress would disturb the housing recovery.  Now is not the time to raise the cost to purchase or refinance a home.

NAR strongly believes that taxing homeowners to pay for transportation programs places an unnecessary long-term burden on consumers and this action will disproportionately impact low and moderate income borrowers, as well as first-time homebuyers.

Take action now to prevent Congress from placing an unnecessary long-term burden on American homeowners with a new Transportation Tax.  REALTOR members must act to stop this legislation.  Click here to access the REALTOR Action Center and make your voice heard in Congress.

By Kerri | September 25, 2015 | Comments Off on Burge Awarded Omega Tau Rho Honor

Kelly Burge, CEO of the Northwest Iowa Regional Board of Realtors has been awarded the prestigious Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Service, a national award bestowed for her contributions to the professional association and service to the Realtor profession. The award was presented September 23 during the Iowa Association of Realtors annual convention in Altoona.

Kelly BurgeThe Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Service is awarded to members of the Realtor organization who meet specific leadership criteria on local, state, and national levels. Once a medallion is awarded, the recipient is a member of the prestigious Omega Tau Rho fraternity for life.

“This award is truly an honor as it marks Kelly’s exemplary dedication and service to the Realtor members of Sioux City and northwestern Iowa,” said Dave Bert, CEO of the Iowa Association of Realtors. “Kelly’s leadership and longstanding passion for excellence are well-recognized across our state and throughout the entire Realtor association,” he said.

Burge began her career in 1999 with the Greater Sioux City Board of Realtors and has served as the organization’s Executive Officer for the past 13 years. She successfully led the organization through a variety of changes during her tenure, including a recent merger with two adjacent Realtor boards to form the Northwest Iowa Regional Board of Realtors.

Omega Tau Rho was created in 1950 and is a National Association of Realtors honorary fraternity comprised of approximately 4000 members. The Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Honor elegantly captures the esteem in which inductees in this honorary fraternity are held by fellow REALTORS®. The medallion is two-inches in diameter and is made of solid brass with an antique gold ox finish in embossed hand relief.
